While continuing to acquire aircraft and artifacts, the museum developed educational programs, instituted a membership program and established a vigorous volunteer program.  Over 65,000 visitors tour the museum annually.

The Museum’s flying collection of award winning aircraft annually logs more than 40,000 cross-country air miles to participate in flying displays and air shows. A few notable aircraft in the museum collection include a B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell, P-47 Thunderbolt, F4U Corsair, SBD Dauntless, F6F Hellcat, TBM Avenger and a Supermarine MkXVI Spitfire.

The Lone Star Flight Museum honors the aviation heroes and pioneers of Texas in the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame.  The Hall of Fame was established in 1995 by the 74th Texas Legislature through a concurrent resolution signed by then Gov. George W. Bush.  The Hall of Fame honors achievement across all fields of aviation; from barnstormers to astronauts and war heroes to entrepreneurs. More than a picture and a biography, the exhibits in the Hall of Fame utilize personal artifacts, books, models, awards and other memorabilia to accurately portray each inductee’s experiences and passion for aviation.

The museum recently repainted its B-25 Mitchell as the first and only flying tribute to the Doolittle Raiders. The Doolittle Raider Association granted the museum exclusive rights to display their emblem as part of the nose art. The 13 Texans of the Doolittle Raiders were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.

The museum’s newly restored Hawker Hurricane arrived in late 2007 after a 15+ year restoration.  It is painted in the colors of a Hurricane flown by TAHF inductee L.C. Wade flying with 33 Squadron of Britain’s Royal Air Force in 1942.  Wade, a native Texan, was the leading Allied ace in the RAF with 23 aerial victories.

The Museum is fortunate to have a dedicated and active membership from across the globe that annually contributes over 35,000 service hours in support of our mission. The value of donated and in-kind goods and services received by the museum far exceeds an amount that could be incorporated into the general operating budget.
