Dagger Tools Edge Lipping Tool Fixture is a vise mounted gauge for turning the edges up on auto body panels to allow for a better fusion welded joint. Fusion welding is allowing the base metals to puddle together, as they cool they become one to create a very ductile (soft) joint without using any filler rod. Filler rod can be introduced sparingly if you have some edge to edge mis-match up conditions. Stops are provided to allow your to set the depth in of the panel edge, full depth for 16 gauge materials and only half of the depth for 20 gauge metal, ratio is larger lip height for thicker metals and less lip height for thinner metals, the joint can be inverted in for low crown panels and outward for high crown panels. The joined lips can be raised easily with a panel beater or auto body hammer and dolly, on a forming head or with a English Wheel (after a light planishing) or an air Planishing hammer. Long used by English coach builders, lipping can be done on steel as well as aluminum (will require flux). A great alternative to traditional butt welded seams, especially where you want to control the heat affected zone or where it will not be particularly difficult to access back side to finish a panel area after fusion welding assembly. Panel lipping does require access to both side of the panel but works when joining patch panels with older metal to newer metal. Edge lipping requires oxy/fuel welding but can be done equally as well with Tig welding. 6" OAL and offers a full 6" lipping zone, bench or vise mount. Full instructions included and can be easily used by all skill level persons. You'll be very impressed with the quality and uniformity of your seam and what a time save,r no grinding and only light sanding........ Now includes our DPBRMO 1 1/2" diameter redhead barrel & bossing mallet. Fusion welded lipped joints are consider to be lifetime joints, no harder than base metal and no softer, maintain base metal ductility. Proudly, Made in Michigan.
